| Berlin Closes its Streets and Opens its Town to the Arts
The day after Thanksgiving, noted as Black Friday in much of the country, has a decidedly different tone in Berlin, Maryland. Berlin rings in the Christmas season with its annual Fall Arts Night, an evening dedicated to art and entertainment.
Town galleries and shops, decorated for the holiday season, open their doors to present the work of artists throughout the area. Due to the popularity of Arts Night and the number of shops and galleries participating, this year Berlin has expanded the area for the event, for the first time including streets adjacent to Main Street in its closing. Our goal is to make the event a relaxing evening filled with art and entertainment. With the expanded area, visitors will be able to stroll comfortably through town and appreciate the special feel of arts night, commented Karen Prengaman of the Waterline Gallery.
Additional shops will be participating in this years Arts Night and street festivities will be expanded to Saturday, as well. Each participating shop will feature an artist who will be on hand to discuss their displayed works. Wine and light snacks will be served at host shops. New this year will be street musicians performing for the strolling crowds. The event is free to the public, and new this year will be special collection boxes designed by local artists.
These boxes, works of art in their own right, will be strategically placed throughout the town encouraging visitors to contribute to Berlins nascent Arts and Entertainment district to help fund future town arts-related events.
